In the Wild

Our current exhibition of wildlife paintings and Limited Edition prints by Phillip Allder is proving a great success.

With subjects ranging from blue tits to leopards, Phillip's passion for animals and conservation can be seen in the  finely detailed and often dramatic compositions that come from his easel.  Wildlife art is the oldest art form known to man, and there is a direct line  from the early cave paintings to the wildlife masters of today.
Phillip has travelled extensively to study his subject matter, he believes  it’s important to “soak up” the environment as well as seeing the animal  behaving naturally. But it is back at the studio that he puts his very heart and  soul into his life’s work. Striving to show you the very best he can do...and  then some.

New Season - New work

Delighted to be exhibiting new canvas prints by Jane Ward - at present we have - Sharp Edge - Buttermere and Striding Edge - £98 each. These classic and much loved views, are bound to be popular and we are expecting more in the range shortly, so watch this space.

This is always a busy and exciting time in the gallery, as we prepare for the new season ahead. Kick started by a visit to the Spring Fair at the NEC in February to see what the trends are for this year, and to attempt to source new British designers to work with. We are now gradually receiving deliveries of new work ( jewellery, ceramics, glassware and greetings cards) that will be a part of our displays this year. The weather has been really dissappointing since Christmas, but seems to have improved in time for the half term holiday visitors. It is such a treat though to see the sun again, and lighter evenings.

Our Winter Exhibition is drawing to a close, and next week we will be preparing for the first of our 2013 Spotlight On Exhibitions - An exhibition of Wildlife Paintings by Phillip Allder. Phil as some of you will remember was a founder member of Viridian in the days we ran as a co-operative. We hope you will be able to visit the gallery and enjoy this powerful exhibition.

Celebrations

We are delighted to show this latest exhibition of new acrylic paintings by Venus. Venus is a permanent exhibitor with Viridian, and her work is instantly recognisable and much collected.

Venus was awarded a scholarship to Wakefield Art College after which she was employed, in industry, as a Technical Illustrator until leaving work to become a full time mother.

After the children had grown up she returned to her own education completing a Foundation Fine Arts course at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham and later qualifying as a teacher. Whilst in Nottingham she taught Art and Screen-printing to full-time and recreational students as well as running Art Workshops for the mentally handicapped.

Venus moved to Keswick in 1988 where she set up her studio at home, working in watercolours acrylics and mono-screen prints.

In addition to the Spotlight On exhibition there are new watercolours by gallery owner Diane Gainey, and paintings by Julie Dunbarton, Alan Rutherford, John Burrows, Bill Taylor, Jane Ward and other gallery artists, as well as exciting ranges of ceramics, glassware and jewellery that are proving very popular with our customers looking for quality gifts.

December Diary Dates

The Victorian Fayre will take place in Keswick on Sunday 2nd December this year, and we will be serving mulled wine in the gallery. A visit to Keswick at this time is a lovely way to get into the Christmas Spirit, and everything looks very festive at the moment.

You are invited also to join us on Sunday 9th December, when we will be serving Mulled Wine and festive nibbles from 12 noon till 4p.m. We hope to have several of our artists in the gallery during the course of the day.

We are delighted to welcome Bill Taylor back as an exhibiting artist at Viridian. Bill was a founder member of the gallery when we first opened, (in the days when we ran as a co-operative), and his work was widely collected.

We are offering a 10% discount to our returning customers, when they spent £30 or more until 31st December. So please let us know that you have visited the website and seen this offer to claim your discount, if you are able to visit the gallery during this time.

We have been so encouraged by all of the positive feed back about the gallery recently and thank all responsible for those comments.
