Bede Glass

Maureen Hodgson

Like many good things in life, Maureen’s interest in glass happened almost by chance. Having recently retired from a long and very happy teaching career, a friend suggested attending a glass making course at the National Glass Centre. Since then Maureen has developed a love of glass production and has deepened her expertise and skills through training at both the National Glass Centre in Sunderland and Higham Hall in Cumbria.

Bede Glass emerged initially from her joy of making unique handcrafted jewellery but  soon developed into larger glass compositions. Central to Maureen’s innovative designs are her love of glass and the freedom to explore the endless opportunities in such a versatile medium. She works with a variety of glass and materials to craft individual and inventive pieces.  Hugely important are the colours, textures and reflective qualities of the glass. Much of Maureen’s inspiration is drawn from the spectacular coastal scenery of her native North-east and the inspiring beauty of the hills and lakes of Cumbria.
